Hoot was a very interesting and surprising book. There were many things that caught my attention. The characters were very different in their own way, for example how they all had so many unique ideas. Their qualities were one of the things about them that made them more amazing like how caring they were for the owls. They were all so committed to their project of saving the burrowing owls and didn't give up.
One thing that mainly kept me reading was how three kids could make such a big difference. For example how Roy came as a new kid to Florida and saved the burrowing owls with two new friends that he met in such a strange way. Roy would not have imagined that just following a barefoot boy would change his life and be the start of great friendships. These new friends even stood together in front of roaring bulldozers and important executives to protect the innocent burrowing owls.
Another thing that surprised me was how Mullet fingers, one of the friends could tape a cottonmouth moccasin’s mouth shut and paint their tales. It was also very impressive that Mullet fingers could bring around 8-10 hungry, man eating crocodiles into a bathroom. There were many other stunts that he did that shocked me. He was fun to read about. It’s hard to imagine that this boy actually lives in the wilderness like an animal.
This book was so full of surprises and I couldn’t wait to read what these new friends were going to do next. They were all so different that they made such a good team. They accomplished such an important project of protecting the burrowing owls while at the same time becoming great friends. The story kept me going with all the fun things that happened.
